NAF Launches Probe After Airstrike In Niger State Leaves Civilians Dead.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced the start of an investigation into reports that civilians were killed during a military airstrike in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State.

The investigation will be carried out by the service’s Civilian Harm Accident and Investigation (CHAI) team, which looks into incidents involving harm to non-combatants.

NAF officials said the probe aims to examine the circumstances of the attack and determine what actions are needed.

Reports indicated that at least two people lost their lives, while several others were injured in the Kurgi community following the airstrike.

NAF acknowledged the loss of lives and injuries and expressed concern for those affected by the incident.

The service said it continues to place the protection of civilians at the center of its operations.

Over the past year, NAF said it has followed its Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response Action Plan, which incorporates measures to reduce civilian casualties during operations.

The service said it is committed to reviewing training, procedures, and safeguards to further prevent harm to innocent people.

NAF also reiterated its dedication to accountability, responsibility, and transparency, noting that it will take necessary actions to improve operations, protect civilians, and continue defending the country with professionalism and restraint.
