Troops of the Joint Task Force in the North East under Operation Hadin Kai have killed a top Boko Haram and ISWAP commander during an operation in Borno State.
The slain terrorist was known as a key bomb maker and played a major role in attacks carried out by the group in the region.
The operation took place on January 30, 2026, around Kimba area in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to information from the headquarters of the Joint Task Force, the commander, identified as Julaibib, was operating within the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle before he was tracked and killed by troops during a gun battle.
Military sources explained that the death of the commander has caused confusion among ISWAP fighters in the area.
Several other terrorists were also killed during the encounter as troops continued to press forward after neutralising their target.
The development has weakened the group’s activities within that axis of the Sambisa Forest.
In a separate operation, troops of Operation Hadin Kai, working with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, killed three terrorists during an ambush between Ngazalgana and Lamusheri communities in Borno State.
The operation was carried out after security forces received intelligence about planned movements by insurgents in the area.
Troops laid in wait along the identified route and engaged the terrorists when they arrived.
Three of them were killed during the exchange, while others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Two AK-47 rifles were recovered from the scene as troops secured the area and continued patrols.
Another encounter occurred on January 29, 2026, at Tsokorok in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, where troops positioned in an ambush met Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters.
The soldiers opened fire, forcing the terrorists to retreat.
One terrorist was killed during the clash, while no soldier was injured. Two motorcycles used by the attackers were recovered at the location.
The military said these operations are part of ongoing efforts to restrict terrorist movement, reduce their fighting strength, and restore safety across the North East.
