Nigerian Senator Dies At 52.

The Senator representing Nasarawa North, Godiya Akwashiki, has died at the age of 52 after a long-term illness.

A family source, who confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria on condition of anonymity in Nassarawa Eggon on Thursday, said that Akwashiki died in a hospital in India on Wednesday, December 31, 2025.

According to the source, the senator’s death was a major loss and had created a significant vacuum because of his commitment to development within the senatorial district and his numerous empowerment initiatives.

“Since in the history of Nasarawa North, Sen. Akwashiki was the best Senator Nasarawa North ever produced due to his purposeful leadership.

“His projects is in every nook and cranny of the constituency as he was the only Senator that re-contested and won a second term in the zone,” he said.

Before his election into the Nigerian Senate in 2019, Akwashiki previously served as Majority Leader and later as Deputy Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.

He was born on August 3, 1973, in Angba Iggah, Nasarawa Eggon, Nasarawa State.
