NJC Approves Five Fresh Judges For High Court.

The National Judicial Council, NJC, has sanctioned the appointment of Adefunke Helen Anoma and four other nominees as judges of the Ekiti State High Court.

The other appointees are Olanike Caroline Adegoke, Julius Sunday Bamidele Bamise, Julius Ajibare, and Stephen Rotimi Akinyede.

The NJC Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe, Esq, disclosed this in a statement released on Friday, noting that the decision was reached at the Council’s 110th meeting held on January 13, 2026, under the leadership of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun.

She explained that the appointments are part of the Council’s approval of 27 candidates for positions as State High Court judges across seven states, following an intensive screening exercise that involved the review of public complaints and interviews conducted by a seven-member Interview Committee, in accordance with the 2023 Revised NJC Guidelines and Procedural Rules for the Appointment of Judicial Officers.

Apart from Ekiti State, the NJC also approved the appointment of High Court judges for Borno State with six nominees, Plateau State with six nominees, Niger State with four nominees, Delta State with four nominees, Benue State with one nominee, and Taraba State with one nominee.

Additionally, the Council recommended Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole, the Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, for appointment as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, alongside 35 other nominees for various judicial positions across the country.
