Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has begun a campaign tour in the Federal Capital Territory with members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the upcoming council elections.
Obi’s visit started on Wednesday at Kugbo furniture market, which recently suffered losses from a fire outbreak.
He met with traders affected by the fire, assuring them that with proper support, they can recover and rebuild their businesses.
The visit also focused on raising awareness about the need for better emergency response systems.
Obi called for stronger and more coordinated services that can respond quickly to crises, protect lives, and preserve livelihoods.
Later, Obi joined Moses Paul, the ADC candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council chairmanship, at a local market to engage directly with the community.
The former governor stressed the importance of citizen involvement in local governance and urged residents to participate actively in the elections.
He added that preventing avoidable disasters and ensuring efficient institutions are essential steps toward a better Nigeria.
