President Bola Tinubu has formally asked the Senate to approve the appointment of Justice Oyewole Kayode as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
The request was contained in a letter sent to the upper chamber and read during Tuesday’s plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In the letter, the president explained that the nomination was made under Section 231(2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
He informed the lawmakers that he had selected Justice Oyewole Kayode for elevation to the Supreme Court and requested the Senate’s confirmation.
Tinubu also urged the Senate to treat the nomination quickly, expressing confidence that the lawmakers would give the matter prompt attention.
After the letter was read, Akpabio directed that the president’s request be forwarded to the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters.
The committee was asked to review the nomination and return with its report as soon as possible for further action by the chamber.
