Osborne Umahi, the eldest son of Minister of Works David Umahi, has been named the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship candidate for Ohaozara Local Government Area after the party’s primary election held yesterday.
The election took place in Obiozara, where Osborne faced no opposition after his only rival, Jenny Umahi, was disqualified for not completing registration on the party’s online membership platform.
With his competitor removed, Osborne secured all 55 votes cast, officially becoming the party’s flagbearer ahead of the local government elections.
The primary was conducted under the supervision of the APC congress committee chaired by Alphonsus Nwali, with oversight from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Osborne Umahi outlined several goals he intends to pursue if elected chairman, focusing on improving health services, agriculture, youth empowerment, and infrastructure.
He said plans include establishing cottage agricultural centers, promoting mechanized farming, and constructing durable roads to improve connectivity between farms and markets.
He also spoke about building concrete roads designed to last decades.
He thanked Governor Francis Nwifuru for supporting his candidacy and acknowledged the encouragement and prayers of his father and siblings.
Several local leaders and stakeholders also welcomed his victory, including Mrs. Chioma Nweze, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Development (South East), and Francis Ori, the State Commissioner for Housing.
