The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), has been formally inaugurated as the Chancellor of Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU), Maiduguri, where he presided over the university’s convocation ceremony and conferred first degrees on graduating students.
Speaking during the ceremony on Saturday, Oba Ogunwusi accepted the appointment for a four-year tenure and pledged to discharge his duties with commitment and integrity.
“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, members of the Senate, I accept this responsibility and will carry out my functions as Chancellor to the best of my ability,” he said.
The monarch described the ceremony as a deeply significant personal milestone.
“Today is a great day for me, a day of honour. I am privileged to be here and to be part of the university family,” he said.
“This convocation is a day I will always remember, and I am committed to supporting education and the development of these young minds.”
He also applauded prominent supporters of education in Nigeria, including Muhammadu Indimi.
“Your simplicity, dedication, and tenacity in supporting education deserve a resounding round of applause. Please continue to give a reason for celebration,” he said.
The Ooni expressed appreciation to Governor Zulum and the founder of the university for the opportunity to serve.
“I want to thank His Excellency Professor Zulum and the founder for inviting me and bringing me on board. I assure you I will add value and will not disappoint,” he said.
The installation was conducted by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, who described the event as a historic milestone for the institution.
He presented the instruments of office to the monarch and officially welcomed him into the university community, noting that his appointment would further strengthen collaboration in advancing education and development in the state.
During the convocation, the Ooni formally declared the assembly convened and advised the graduating students to uphold values of integrity, hard work, and service to humanity as they begin their professional journeys.
The ceremony was attended by several eminent personalities, including the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State, and the Shehu of Borno, HRH Abubakar Ibn Garba El-Kanemi, along with traditional rulers, senior government officials, and members of the academic community.
