UTME Registration: Students Must Disclose Current Admission Status - JAMB.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has stated that candidates who are already enrolled in tertiary institutions can register for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and Direct Entry.

However, they must reveal their current matriculation status. Failing to do so may lead to the loss of both existing and new admissions.

The Board clarified this after reports circulated online misrepresenting its instructions.

According to the Board, some individuals claiming to be education experts have shared incorrect information, creating confusion among students and parents.

These reports suggested that students could register without mentioning existing admissions, which is not allowed.

JAMB explained that registering for the UTME or Direct Entry while already in school is allowed, but hiding that status is an offence.

Candidates must declare their matriculation so that previous admissions automatically end once a new one is secured.

The law forbids holding two admissions at the same time.

The Board also noted that some matriculated students have been hired to take exams on behalf of others.

Declaring matriculation status helps authorities take action when such cases are found.

While JAMB’s system can detect prior admissions, candidates who fail to declare their status risk losing both opportunities.

JAMB advised the public to rely on official guidelines rather than unverified interpretations by self-proclaimed education advocates.

The Board also announced that registration for the 2026 UTME started on January 26, and any Computer-Based Test centre that cannot be monitored remotely will not be allowed to participate.

This measure, called “No Vision, No Registration, No UTME,” aims to maintain the integrity of the examination process.
