Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Tuesday shed light on the issues discussed during his meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday.
Speculation had trailed the meeting, as neither the President nor the governor initially disclosed the outcome of their discussion.
However, the governor’s media adviser, Sunusi Bature, later explained that the visit focused on seeking presidential support and cooperation to accelerate federal projects and ensure Kano State derives maximum benefits from federal programmes and investments.
“He sought the president’s support and cooperation to fast-track federal projects and ensure Kano benefits maximally from federal programmes and investments. He informed President Tinubu about the recent tragic killing of a housewife and her children, stressing the need for decisive federal support to strengthen security operations and protect innocent citizens.
“The governor highlighted the role of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps in complementing security agencies and called for deeper collaboration with federal security institutions. Governor Yusuf also discussed Kano’s development agenda, with special focus on mega infrastructure projects,” he said.
Bature added that the governor expressed appreciation to the President for the Federal Government’s intervention on the Wujuwuju Road, describing the project as a key factor in unlocking economic growth and creating employment opportunities in the state.
He further stated that President Tinubu assured Governor Yusuf of the Federal Government’s commitment to partnering with Kano State to address insecurity and promote sustainable development.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that the Kano governor is no longer a member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), following the removal of the party’s flags from strategic locations within the Government House.
Sources disclosed that Governor Yusuf had already concluded consultations at all levels, with the endorsement of the 44 local government chairmen and the 40 members of the State House of Assembly, and was only awaiting the outcome of his meeting with the President ahead of a planned defection rally.
“There is no going back,” a close associate of the governor was quoted as saying.
