Why I Married Akume — Ooni Of Ife’s Ex-Queen, Zaynab.

Zaynab Ngohemba, the new wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, has spoken about the reason behind their recent marriage, describing it as a deliberate union built on purpose, maturity, and shared values.

The couple were married a few weeks ago in a quiet and private ceremony, which attracted public interest because of Akume’s position and Zaynab’s own public standing.

In a statement issued by her media aide, David Adeoye, Zaynab explained that the marriage is not centred on reinvention or personal change, but on strengthening two lives already dedicated to service.

According to the statement, their marriage is “a partnership shaped by maturity, shared purpose, and mutual understanding,” while also noting that personal stability is important to effective public responsibility.

“It is the coming together of two individuals already devoted to public service,” the statement noted. “This partnership reinforces shared values such as humility, discipline, empathy, and responsibility.”

Adeoye also highlighted the broader meaning of the union, particularly at a time when many Nigerians are increasingly calling for integrity, accountability, and compassion from people in positions of authority.

He said the marriage represents a leadership mindset that balances authority with empathy and governance with genuine service, suggesting that leaders perform better when anchored in strong personal values.

“At a time when Nigerians demand more humanity from their leaders, this union quietly signals that service is strongest when built on shared values, stability, and a long-term vision,” the statement added.

Zaynab, formerly known as Zaynab Otiti Obanor, was previously married to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

The traditional marriage was held in March 2016, but the relationship ended in separation in 2017.

During the 17-month marriage, she was widely known as Olori Wuraola.
