The wife of Ogun State’s first civilian governor, Madam Lucia Onabanjo, has died.
She passed away on Monday at the age of 100.
The news of her death was confirmed on Tuesday in a statement signed by her daughter, Olubukunola Onabanjo, who is the Chairman of the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission.
The statement read that the family of Chief Victor Olabisi Onabanjo, former Governor of Ogun State, announced with deep sorrow, yet gratitude to Almighty God, the passing of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
It said Chief (Mrs) Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo, born in 1925, was called to glory on Monday, January 11, 2026.
According to the family, they thanked God for her long and fulfilled life and for the enduring legacy of love, strength and faith she left behind.
They also prayed that her soul would rest in perfect peace.
The late Lucia Onabanjo was married to Chief Olabisi Onabanjo, Ogun State’s first civilian governor, who served from October 1979 to December 1983 during Nigeria’s Second Republic.
As of the time of filing this report, details of her funeral arrangements had yet to be announced by the family.
