The Federal Government has brought nine suspects to court over the deadly attack on Yelwata community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, where many residents were killed and several others forced to flee their homes.
The suspects were arraigned on Monday, February 2, 2026, before Justice Joyce Abdul-Malik at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
They are facing a total of 57 charges linked to the June 2025 attack that shook the state.
The case is being handled by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
During the court session, the charges were read to the accused persons with the help of an interpreter, as security operatives maintained a strong presence within and around the court.
The Federal Government listed offences connected to the killings, acts linked to terrorism, and illegal possession of weapons among the charges filed against the suspects.
Before the arraignment, the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation stated that the government remains focused on ensuring justice for those affected by the Yelwata attack.
It noted that the move to charge the suspects followed careful investigations and cooperation among security agencies and justice officials.
The Yelwata community came under attack in June 2025 when armed men invaded the area, killing many residents and displacing hundreds.
Following the killings, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Makurdi, the Benue State capital, where he directed security agencies to track down those behind the attack and ensure they are brought to justice.
