The National Examinations Council has released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination External results, with 71.63 per cent of candidates meeting the required pass level.
The results were made public on Wednesday at the council’s headquarters in Minna by the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim-Wushishi.
He said the examination took place between November 26 and December 13, 2025, while marking was carried out from January 5 to January 21, 2026.
According to him, the results were ready 52 days after the final paper was written.
A total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, made up of 51,823 males and 45,156 females.
Out of this number, 95,160 candidates eventually sat for the exams, including 50,785 males and 44,375 females.
The registrar explained that 93,425 candidates took English Language, and 73,167 of them, representing 78.32 per cent, earned credit and above.
For Mathematics, 93,330 candidates participated, with 85,256 candidates, or 91.35 per cent, scoring credit and above.
He added that 68,166 candidates, representing 71.63 per cent, secured five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics.
In addition, 82,082 candidates, or 86.26 per cent, obtained five credits and above without considering English and Mathematics.
Professor Ibrahim-Wushishi said the SSCE External examination serves as another chance for candidates seeking admission into universities and other tertiary institutions within and outside the country. He noted that the examination covered 16 subjects.
On examination malpractice, he disclosed that 9,016 candidates were involved in various offences during the exercise.
This figure, he said, is higher than the 6,160 cases recorded in 2024, showing an increase of 31.7 per cent.
He also stated that five supervisors were recommended for blacklisting for their roles in malpractice, with two from the Federal Capital Territory and one each from Kano, Adamawa and Ondo states.
The registrar further revealed that four examination centres were recommended for derecognition due to whole-centre malpractice.
Two of the centres are located in Niger State, while one each is in Yobe and Kano states.
Candidates were advised to check their results on NECO’s official website using their examination registration numbers.
He also announced the release of the 2026 Automated Staff Posting Calendar, adding that staff postings would now be done through a random process and can be checked online using personal details.
