Senate Approves Oyewole As Supreme Court Justice.

The Senate has confirmed Hon. Justice Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole of the Court of Appeal as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The confirmation followed the presentation and review of a report by the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters during plenary in Abuja on Tuesday.

The report was presented by the committee chairman, Senator Adeniyi Adegbonmire, who informed lawmakers that Justice Oyewole had been screened and found suitable for the position.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier forwarded a request to the Senate, seeking approval for Oyewole’s appointment to the apex court.

The request was formally read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

After the request was read, the Senate President referred the matter to the Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters for legislative action and a quick report.

The committee later submitted its findings, leading to the confirmation of the nominee by the lawmakers.

Justice Oyewole, who was until his elevation a Justice of the Court of Appeal, now joins the Supreme Court following the Senate’s approval in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, as amended.
