APC Drops Tinubu's Minister From Governorship Race.

The plan of Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to run for the Oyo State governorship in 2027 has reportedly faced a setback.

Sources within the All Progressives Congress (APC) indicate that party leaders are now supporting Senator Sharafadeen Alli as their preferred candidate.

Reports say key figures in Southwest APC politics consider Adelabu a controversial and divisive figure, which influenced the party’s decision.

Concerns over his performance as Minister of Power also reportedly reduced his chances within party circles.

Adelabu had publicly declared his intention to contest soon after taking office in 2023 and had been consulting widely across Oyo State since 2025.

In contrast, Alli, 63, a trained lawyer and current chairman of the Senate Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions, is seen as a steady and low-profile leader.

His experience includes serving as Secretary to the Oyo State Government and as Chief of Staff to the governor. Party officials reportedly appreciate his quiet, behind-the-scenes approach.

The decision came during a meeting at President Bola Tinubu’s residence in Lagos, which included top APC figures such as Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.

Other Southwest stakeholders from Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos states, all scheduled for governorship elections in 2027, were also present.
