APC Suspends Former Minister.

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that former Minister Dr. Sampson Ogah remains suspended from the party due to actions considered against party interests.

Ogah recently attended a Labour Party event in Isuikwuato, where he publicly supported the reelection of Abia State Governor Alex Otti while also expressing loyalty to President Bola Tinubu.

The APC viewed his appearance and statements as potentially damaging to the party's position in the 2027 governorship election in the state.

At a meeting in Umuahia, party officials, including the State Working Committee and the 17 local government chairmen, reiterated that Ogah had been suspended at both the ward and local government levels since 2022.

The party’s legal adviser, Vigenus Chukwudi Nwankwo, explained that the recent incident could not lead to a new suspension, but only confirms the previous disciplinary action. Article 22, Section 2, Subsection 2 of the APC constitution governs the disciplinary measure, affirming that Ogah is not in good standing with the party.

The APC also raised concerns that remarks from people claiming party membership could harm the party’s image and weaken its prospects in upcoming elections.

During the meeting, Deputy Chairman Chinedu Ihesielo praised the 17 local government chairmen for successfully completing the party congresses at the ward, local government, and state levels. He called for unity among party members, encouraging them to focus on collective efforts to strengthen the APC in Abia ahead of future elections.

The meeting concluded with the party endorsing Donatus Nwankpa for the role of National Welfare Secretary at the APC’s national convention scheduled for March 28, 2027. Party leaders expressed confidence in Nwankpa’s experience and dedication, noting his ability to serve effectively if elected.
