Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda, former Senate Minority Leader, has officially left the Peoples Democratic Party to join the All Progressives Congress.
The ceremony in Abuja saw him receive the party’s cap, signaling his full entry into the ruling party, and he pledged to work toward delivering the Federal Capital Territory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
The formal welcoming took place at the APC National Secretariat, with National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda presenting Aduda with the party insignia.
Party leaders and supporters attended the event, signaling unity and acceptance of the new member.
Yilwatda spoke about ongoing development projects under the Tinubu administration, including road constructions aimed at boosting agriculture, trade, and the non-oil sector, and noted that these initiatives were shaping the country’s economic path.
Aduda said his decision to switch parties was based on aligning with the administration’s developmental direction in the FCT.
He pointed to reforms that have given the territory more autonomy, such as the establishment of the FCT Civil Service Commission and access to the Federal Executive Council, which he said has improved career opportunities for civil servants.
He also criticized opposition parties in the FCT, calling them ineffective, and expressed confidence that the APC would secure a complete victory in the territory in the 2027 elections.
The senator referenced the party’s strong showing in the last area council elections, where it won five of six councils, as evidence of growing support.
Abdulmalik Usman, APC Chairman in the FCT, welcomed Aduda as a major political figure whose move strengthens the party’s position.
He added that APC is now in a better place to gain the backing of over 1.7 million registered voters in the capital ahead of the next general elections.
