A 74-year-old man, Ikwuakalom Nwakoro Emeka, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, after officers found a large amount of cocaine in his luggage.
Emeka was stopped at the departure hall while trying to board British Airways flight BA082 to Heathrow Airport, London, on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
He told officials he was traveling for a vacation.
During a detailed inspection, authorities discovered about 11 kilograms of cocaine hidden in food items such as ground dry pepper.
The drugs were carefully wrapped in foil and balloons to avoid detection.
NDLEA took Emeka into custody as investigations into the seizure continue.
Authorities are working to determine how long he had been planning the smuggling and whether others were involved.
