Michael B. Jordan has been named the winner of the Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance in “Sinners” at the 98th Academy Awards.
The announcement came during the live ceremony on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, with Jordan becoming the first Black man to win the category since Denzel Washington in 2002.
Accepting the award, an emotional Jordan thanked director Ryan Coogler, his co-stars, family, and fans, saying:
“This is for every young Black kid who ever dreamed bigger than the world told them they could. Thank you for believing in this story, in this journey, in me.”
“Sinners,” a gripping psychological thriller co-written and directed by Coogler, follows Jordan in dual roles as twin brothers caught in a web of crime, faith, and redemption in the American South.
The win caps a dominant awards season for Jordan, who previously took home SAG, BAFTA, and Critics' Choice awards for the role. Social media erupted with celebration, with many calling it a long-overdue recognition for one of Hollywood’s most versatile leading men.
