Morocco Crowned AFCON 2025 Champions After Senegal Forfeit.

The Confederation of African Football has handed the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco after its appeal board ruled that Senegal forfeited the final.

This decision followed a protest from the Moroccan football federation challenging the conduct of Senegal during the match.

The ruling by CAF’s appeal board set aside an earlier disciplinary decision and recorded the final score as 3–0 in favour of Morocco.

Senegal’s actions were found to have broken competition rules, leading to the forfeiture.

The board also reviewed other disciplinary issues from the final. Moroccan player Ismaël Saibari received a reduced suspension of two CAF matches, with one match suspended, and his $100,000 fine was dropped.

Morocco was also fined $50,000 for incidents involving ball boys and $10,000 for a laser-related disruption.

A separate $100,000 fine related to interference near the VAR review area was maintained.

Originally, Senegal had won the final 1–0 in extra time in Rabat, but the match had been marred by disputes over refereeing decisions and conflicts between players and officials. Both teams had faced fines and suspensions after the match.

With the appeal board’s decision, Morocco, who hosted the tournament, are now officially declared champions of AFCON 2025, marking an unusual ending to one of the competition’s most dramatic finals.
