Ambassador-designate Reno Omokri has stated that Nigeria is significantly safer today than it was a decade ago.
He argued while speakingon Channels Television on March 4, that when compared to the insecurity recorded in 2016, the country’s security situation has greatly improved.
“In 2016, we were the third most t+rrorized nation in the world. Now, we are not even in the top five. If you look at last December, we had 1,2 million tourists come into Lagos. There was not one robbery, not one domestic incident, nothing significant happened. Nobody was k+lled. In February, we had 50, 000 fishermen and 500, 000 spectators at Kebbi for the Argungu fishig festival. Not one person was k+lled. No domestic incident.
Last year June, at the Ojude Oba festival, we had 200, 000 people from all over the world, they came there. Nobody was k+lled. We have localized security issues but the thing is that Nigeria is much better than it was ten years ago’’
Omokri maintained that while security challenges still exist in certain areas, the overall situation across the country shows marked improvement compared to previous years.
