The Plateau State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended its Southern Zone Vice Chairman, Hon. Mankup Peter Tongshep, for one month over alleged anti-party behavior.
The suspension takes effect immediately and prevents Tongshep from performing any official duties during this period.
The State Working Committee (SWC) said the action follows a preliminary review of Tongshep’s conduct under the party’s constitution.
The case has also been referred to the State Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and recommendations. The PDP in Plateau stressed that all members must follow party rules.
The move comes as the party faces internal tension over competing leadership claims.
A faction linked to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, previously held a parallel congress in Jos, during which Tongshep was elected state chairman. The official party leadership rejected this outcome as invalid.
Hon. Damishi Sango, a founding PDP member and elder statesman, defended the parallel congress, describing it as a peaceful process to secure the party’s future in Plateau State.
Sango said the congress elected Tongshep along with 38 other executive members and insisted that this group represents the legitimate leadership of the state PDP.
He described the rival faction led by Chief Raymond Dabo as illegal but said he holds no personal grievance against Dabo.
Sango urged party members to resolve their differences and work together to strengthen the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections.
The ongoing dispute has left the Plateau PDP divided, with rival groups asserting control over the party’s structure in the state.
