Popular Market Shut Down In Lagos.

The Lagos International Trade Fair Complex experienced a halt in business activities as traders closed their shops and stalls to protest a proposed takeover by state and local government authorities

Traders expressed worries that the new management could bring extra levies and taxes that might affect their operations.

Many of the traders pointed out that the complex is a federal property and called for more discussions before any management changes are carried out.

The protest led to the temporary closure of shops throughout the complex, with hundreds of traders gathering in open areas and parking sections while talks continued.

The ASPANDA Market, known as one of Lagos’s largest spare parts hubs, was among the areas affected by the shutdown.

Witnesses reported that traders started locking their stalls early in the morning to make their concerns known about the proposed takeover.

During the day, Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, visited the complex to meet with traders and encourage the resumption of business.

The minister urged the gates to be opened to traders and said her visit was intended to engage with stakeholders and support smooth market activities.
