Just like Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot, who represents the Surulere state constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Babajimi Benson is a member of the Nigeria House of Representatives in Abuja, representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
He has
served in this post for 11 years and will be 12 years at the end of this
dispensation, which some people in Ikorodu say is enough.
Hon.
Babajimi Benson is an indigene of Ikorodu from the prominent Benson family. He
started representing Ikorodu in Abuja in 2015 and is popular among his people
for the projects he has achieved. Therefore, his critics are not questioning
his competence but his time in office.
For
example, during his tenure he has facilitated the construction of over 65 roads
across the Ikorodu division, facilitated the 80-bed mother and child hospital
in Imota, and created the iCare Foodbank (Apo Anu) social welfare that
distributes food rations to thousands of vulnerable Ikorodu residents monthly.
Despite
his record, critics say he should step down because he has served long enough.
Critics say his stay in power is preventing rotation of the post among
different zones in Ikorodu, and blocking the growth of younger political
aspirants in the division
There is
one important thing to note.
A lot of
his supporters say if Ikorodu will one day produce a Lagos governor, then Hon.
Babajimi Benson is the only hope for Ikorodu because of his seniority, network,
and experience.
Therefore
his political career shouldn't be tampered with, but he should give chance for
the growth of other people from the area, as he is not the only one capable in
Ikorodu.
