ADC Fixes May 25 For Presidential Primary.

The African Democratic Congress has scheduled May 25, 2026, for the selection of its presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This comes shortly after the All Progressives Congress fixed May 23, 2026, for its own presidential primary.

Details of the timetable were contained in a document signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, and shared with journalists on Sunday by the National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.

According to the schedule, the party will hold its governorship primaries on May 22, 2026, as part of its preparation for the upcoming elections.

The party also released the cost of its nomination and expression of interest forms. Those seeking the presidential ticket are expected to pay N100 million, while governorship aspirants will pay N50 million.

For other positions, the Senate form is fixed at N20 million, House of Representatives at N10 million, and state House of Assembly at N3 million.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has already announced January 16, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and state assembly elections will take place on February 6, 2027.

The commission also set April 23 to May 30, 2026, as the period for political parties to conduct their primaries and settle any disputes that may arise.

Campaign activities for presidential and National Assembly elections are expected to begin on August 19, 2026, while campaigns for governorship and state assembly elections will start on September 9, 2026.

The sale of nomination and expression of interest forms by the party will run from May 5 to May 10. Aspirants are to submit their completed forms between May 11 and May 13.

Screening of aspirants will take place from May 14 to May 15, while the results will be released on May 17. Those who wish to challenge the outcome of the screening can do so between May 18 and May 19, while the final list of cleared aspirants will be made public on May 20.

Primary elections for state House of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate positions will begin on May 21 and will be conducted at the ward level across the country.

The party also introduced reduced fees to encourage wider participation. Young aspirants will get a 50 per cent discount, while women and persons living with disabilities will receive a 25 per cent reduction.
