Chef Arrested Over Alleged Drugging, ₦150m Theft In Abuja.

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a chef, John Cosmos Govi, over an alleged plan to drug members of a household in Abuja and steal luxury items valued at about ₦150 million.

The suspect was picked up by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team under the Nigeria Police Force following an investigation into allegations of criminal conspiracy, housebreaking, theft and the use of suspected harmful substances. His two alleged accomplices, identified as Peter and Moses, are said to be on the run.

Investigators said Govi, who reportedly trained as a chef in Cotonou, Benin Republic, secured employment in the Abuja residence and allegedly studied the movements, routine and security arrangements of the home before the incident.

It was gathered that on April 23, 2026, meals prepared in the house were allegedly laced with a sedative-like substance intended to make the occupants and security personnel unconscious. After this, the suspect reportedly allowed his accomplices into the residence to carry out the operation.

The group was said to have damaged the CCTV system, searched the apartment and stole cash along with about 20 luxury wristwatches. The total value of the stolen items was estimated at ₦150 million.

Police operatives later intercepted the suspects while they were allegedly trying to escape through the Gwagwalada axis on their way to Lagos. An iPhone 17 Pro Max belonging to the victim and a suspected chemical substance were recovered during the arrest and have been sent for forensic examination.

The Nigeria Police Force said efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and ensure everyone involved in the incident is brought to justice.
