The Hisbah Command in Katagum Zone, Bauchi State, has arrested seven members of a group known as Wuddadu in Azare Local Government Area over allegations of engaging in an illegal wife-swapping arrangement.
Zonal Commander, Malam Ridwan Muhammad Khairan, said the suspects were picked up after complaints from residents and internal whistleblowing within the group.
He explained that the men were accused of arranging the exchange of their wives for marital and s+x¥al relations, a practice he described as completely un-Islamic.
According to him, the operation was carried out by the enforcement team, Operation Ko Ba Kobo, following credible intelligence.
He added that the suspects admitted to organising the arrangement, attempting to justify it with claims that one member had dreams supporting the practice.
Khairan firmly rejected the explanation, stressing that Islamic law requires properly contracted and witnessed marriages, and warned that the act amounts to ad and moral misconduct. He also cautioned residents against adopting practices that contradict religious teachings, saying Hisbah would not tolerate such behaviour.
Leader of the Wuddadu group, Malam Sagir Bashir, said members had tried repeatedly to correct those involved through warnings and counselling, but the behaviour continued in secret.
He said the matter was eventually reported to Hisbah to protect the community’s moral integrity, adding that a similar incident had previously been addressed but later resurfaced.
Bashir clarified that the practice was not part of the group’s teachings, blaming it on misguided personal interpretations. He warned that those involved risk expulsion if they persisted.
One of the suspects reportedly told investigators that his actions were influenced by repeated dreams he believed justified the arrangement, a claim authorities dismissed as baseless.
