12 Lagos Assembly Lawmakers Who Lost Out In The APC 2027 Ticket Race.

Twelve sitting members of the Lagos State House of Assembly failed to secure return tickets in the just-concluded All Progressives Congress primaries, marking one of the most significant shake-ups in the Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Among those who missed out are three principal officers and nine other lawmakers, according to results from the APC primaries held across the state.

Principal officers affected are, Hon. Noheem Adams, Majority Leader representing Eti-Osa Constituency I, Hon. Fatai Mojeed, Chief Whip, Hon. Setonji David, Deputy Chief Whip

Their loss signals a major shift in the leadership structure of the House, where the trio had held key positions steering legislative business.

The remaining nine lawmakers who failed to make the party’s final list are:

Desmond Elliot, Surulere Constituency I; Gbolahan Ogunleye, Ikorodu Constituency I, son of former Deputy Governor and GAC member Pa Abiodun Ogunleye; Lanre Afini, Lagos Island I; Stephen Ogundipe, Oshodi/Isolo I; Obafemi Saheed, Kosofe II; Bonu Solomon, Badagry II; Emmanuel Oloto, Ifako-Ijaiye II; Jubreel Abdulkareem, Agege II and Apata Samuel, Somolu Constituency II.

The primaries produced a mix of returning and new candidates. Lawmakers who secured return tickets include Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda, Gbolahan Yishawu (Eti-Osa I), Abiodun Tobun (Epe I), Sylvester Ogunkelu (Epe II), Temitope Adedeji (Ifako-Ijaiye I), Ladi Ajomale (Oshodi/Isolo II), Suraju Tijani (Ojo II), Ege Olusegun (Ojo I), and Age-Sulaimon Wale Rauf (Amuwo-Odofin II).

Candidates reportedly backed by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa in Agege I and Agege II also lost their bids. Gbenga Abiola Agbelebu won in Agege I, while Sule Shakiru Akindele clinched Agege II. Speaker Obasa himself and Mosunmola Sangodara of Surulere II did not seek re-election.

The outcome underscores a shift in Lagos APC politics where incumbency is no longer a guarantee. Analysts note that performance, grassroots connection, and internal party acceptance increasingly determine who gets the party’s ticket.

The loss of three principal officers in one cycle is expected to reshape the balance of power in the 10th Assembly when it reconvenes after 2027. It also reflects the intensity of intra-party contests in Lagos, where the APC primary is often seen as the real battleground ahead of the general election.
