Military Raises Security Alert Ahead Of Eid In North-East.

The Headquarters of the Joint Task Force in the North-East, Operation Hadin Kai, has warned that Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters may try to launch attacks during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations in parts of the region.

The warning followed intelligence reports indicating that insurgent groups could target crowded public places during the festive period. Security officials said the groups may attempt to cause harm in busy areas such as markets, transport hubs, and places of worship where many people are expected to gather.

The military noted that there is a possibility of isolated attacks involving suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices, especially in locations with high population density. It added that such plans are aimed at exploiting the movement and gatherings that usually come with the celebration.

Residents across the North-East were advised to hold Eid prayers and celebrations within their neighbourhoods and avoid unnecessary large gatherings where possible. They were also encouraged to stay alert in crowded spaces like motor parks, markets, banking halls, and prayer grounds.

The theatre command further called on members of the public to report any suspicious behaviour, abandoned items, or unusual movement to the nearest security agencies for quick action.

It also urged people to support ongoing patrols and screening activities by security personnel and to reduce unnecessary travel, particularly at night or in areas with limited security presence.

Authorities warned against the spread of false information that could create panic among residents, urging community leaders, religious figures, and media organisations to help share accurate security information before and during the celebrations.

Operation Hadin Kai assured residents that troops are fully deployed, alert, and in control of the security situation across the North-East during the festive period.
