The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 35-year-old man, Abdullahi Hassan, after finding 1,989 rounds of 7.62mm military ammunition hidden inside bags of white garri along the Abuja–Kaduna highway in Kaduna State.
The arrest happened during a patrol on Tuesday, May 12, when officers stopped and searched the vehicle conveying the suspect. During the search, the ammunition was discovered carefully packed inside cassava granules, commonly called garri, in an attempt to avoid detection.
Officials said both the suspect and the recovered ammunition have been handed over to another security agency for further investigation. NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi confirmed the development, noting that the case is now being handled for deeper inquiry into where the ammunition came from and where it was going.
