Niger Govt budgets Fresh N1.5bn Budget For Tables, Chairs At Government House.

 

The Niger State Government has come under scrutiny after budget documents revealed plans to spend another N1.5 billion on executive tables and chairs for guest houses behind the Government House in Minna.

According to documents reviewed by Sahara Reporters, the 2026 approved budget includes funding for the “Provision of 28nos Executive Tables and Chairs for Additional 17no Guest Houses Behind Government House.”

The allocation comes after the state reportedly spent about N1.625 billion between January and September 2025 on the “Provision of Twenty-Eight number executive tables and chairs for additional seventeen numbers Guest Houses behind government house.”

The report noted that while billions were allocated to furniture and guest house projects, only N268 million was spent on “construction/provision of water facilities” within the same period, while markets and parks reportedly received just N93 million.

The budget also contains a N2.1 billion allocation for the “Construction of Additional 9no. Guest Houses, Minna,” alongside renovation projects within Government House.

Sahara Reporters also questioned another N1.514 billion reportedly spent on road construction at Suleja International Market between 2024 and September 2025.

However, the platform claimed visits to the market showed “no evidence of any road project matching the scale of the claimed spending.”

According to the report, “there was no indication of road construction work” at the site, with only drainage excavation and limited concrete structures visible.

Traders within the market also reportedly denied knowledge of any major road construction project in the area.
