The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the commencement of health evaluation to assess officers’ m+ntal health and stress levels.
The Commissioner of Police for the FCT, Ahmed Sanusi, has assured officers that the ongoing m+ntal health and medical assessment exercise is strictly confidential and not intended to p¥nish, st+gmatise, or emb@rass any personnel.
“We are conducting medical evaluations covering the overall health status of officers and also assessing their m+ntal condition and stress levels so medical experts can advise appropriately,” he said.
He added that the exercise would not be a one-off activity but a continuous programme under his leadership, with regular screenings planned for all personnel.
“At least under my watch, officers will be routinely checked. We are not doing this just once. After each round, we will take a break and continue again because health issues can arise at any time,” he said.
Sanusi noted that the screenings may be conducted either bimonthly or quarterly, depending on recommendations from medical professionals.
He also said the command is already gathering useful data from the exercise to improve welfare planning and support systems for officers.
“So far, I am satisfied. We are getting valuable data that will help in proper planning and better support for our personnel,” he added.
The exercise began with officers under the Metro Area Command and will later extend to other area commands across the FCT, including Life Camp, Kubwa, and Kuje.
Addressing possible concerns among officers, the CP explained that sensitisation had been carried out to ensure personnel understood the purpose of the exercise.
“The intention is not punitive. It is not to h¥miliate, d£grade, or disgr@ce anyone,” he said.
He further assured that all results would remain strictly confidential, in line with medical ethics, stressing that individual outcomes would not be shared within the command.
