Police Reject ₦500m Bribe, Seize ₦7.8bn Drug In Lagos.

The Nigeria Police Force, Zone 2 Command, has broken up a drug trafficking group in Lagos and recovered suspected Canadian Loud cannabis valued at about ₦7.8 billion. Several suspects were arrested, including an alleged leader identified as Eke Henry Ifeanyi.

The operation was carried out by the Special Protection Unit together with divisional detectives after months of intelligence gathering and monitoring under the coordination of the Zone 2 Headquarters.

Police officers raided an apartment in the Mende area of Maryland, Lagos, where the illegal drugs were reportedly stored before being moved.

The Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 2, Olohundare Jimoh, said the main suspect was arrested on May 19 after he was placed under close watch for some time, with support from senior police leadership and other units involved in the operation.

During the arrest process, the suspect reportedly tried to stop the operation by offering a ₦500 million bribe to the police team handling the case so they could delay action and allow him to move the drugs away. The offer was turned down and properly recorded for investigation.

Jimoh explained that the success of the operation came from steady intelligence work and proper coordination among police units. He added that quick action by the team helped prevent the destruction or movement of evidence.

The police confirmed that the seized drugs have been secured as exhibits and will be used in court, while investigations are still ongoing to arrest other members of the network linked to the case.
