The widow of a teacher reportedly beheaded during a school attack in Oyo State has pleaded with the government and security agencies to help her recover her husband’s body.
A video showing the gruesome murder of Michael Oyedokuna, a teacher at Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, circulated online, sparking outrage across Nigeria.
The attacks targeted Community High School, L.A. Primary School, Esiele, and Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, with 46 to 48 people reportedly kidnapped, including teachers and pupils.
Celebrities, civil society groups, and ordinary citizens condemned the act and demanded improved security measures and accountability from authorities.
In a separate video on Friday, Mary Oyedokun, visibly distraught, appealed directly to the Federal Government, saying she wanted her husband to have a proper burial site for her family and future generations to visit.
“I am begging the government to please recover the body of my husband. I want him to have a burial site for future reference,” she said in Yoruba.
Authorities continue to carry out rescue operations for the remaining abducted victims. Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde assured residents that both kinetic and non-kinetic measures are being deployed to secure their release.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu condemned the killing, describing it as barbaric, and assured Nigerians that security agencies are intensifying efforts to rescue the captives and bring the perpetrators to justice.
