Recently, news broke that Desmond Elliot has been going around lobbying big names, top stakeholders in APC and people closer to the president to enable him get the blessings and approval of Tinubu to support his 4th term bid.
It is noteworthy to remind us all that Desmond Elliot
has been a member of the Lagos state house of assembly where he represents the
good people of Surulere constituency 1 since 2015.
He was elected for a first term in 2015. Re-elected in
2019, won re-election in 2023 and has formally declared his intention to seek a
fourth term that will last till 2031 if he eventually wins.
Such audacity is only obtainable where votes doesn't
count. People just rely on the president to get his blessings. Once the
president says allow this person, it's a sure bet and no one would oppose.
Currently, the deputy governor of Lagos state seems to have received the
blessings of Tinubu and hopefully, he will be the next governor of Lagos state
in somec months to come.
Even if you are the best thing to happen to mankind
after egusi soup, common sense should tell you that you are expected to vacate
any political office you hold once you complete two terms and give way for
others to come in. But in Nigeria, political officers are seen as
compensation. People uses political offices to settle themselves
Perhaps, Desmond Elliot is trying to emulate the Lagos
state speaker Mudashiru Obasa who is a 6-term lawmaker. He has been in the
Lagos state house of assembly since 2007. By 2027, he will celebrate 20 years
representing Agege constituency 1. He has witness the reign of 3 executive
governors in Lagos state. He entered the House just 6 days after Fashola was
sworn in for his first term. As Speaker since 2015, he worked directly with
both Ambode and Sanwo-Olu. I won't be surprised if he declares interest to contest
again for same position.
That is what they have reduced political office to.
How can the country move forward when we have same idea and same people for
almost 2 decades.
Hopefully, Desmond Elliot will get the blessings of
Tinubu and will continue from where he stopped. I wish the people of Surulere
more toilet to come
