Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has spoken about his decision to bring in several fresh players in recent matches, including the Unity Cup tournament and the friendly game against Poland.
In the Unity Cup, he invited eight players from the domestic league as part of his squad selection. Some of the new players who got their first appearance include Femi Azeez, Owen Oseni, Arthur Okonkwo, and Rafiu Durosinmi.
Their introduction marked a clear change in the team setup as the coach tested new options.
In another development, Banik Ostrava defender Abdullahi Bewene also made his debut in the match against Poland.
Genk defender Christian Akpan has also been added to the squad ahead of the upcoming friendly against Portugal, further showing the coach’s willingness to try different players.
Chelle explained that the team has reviewed its performances over the past year and is working on bringing in players who can help improve results. He added that progress depends on attention to small details, which often decide matches and help separate strong teams from trophy winners.
The coach remains focused on building a stronger and more competitive Super Eagles side through these new additions and constant evaluation of player performance.
