Edo Reopens Three Schools Days After Security Closure.

The Edo State Government has ordered the reopening of three schools in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area after they were shut over security concerns linked to an alleged plan to abduct schoolchildren.

The affected schools include Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School and Makeke Secondary School.

They were closed earlier in the week following security intelligence that raised fears of a possible mass kidnapping in Edo North senatorial district.

The closure had also affected students sitting for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination, with authorities allowing them to continue their exams under strict security arrangements during the shutdown period.

In a new circular issued by the Ministry of Education, the state government announced that the schools will resume academic activities from Monday, June 15, 2026.

The government said the decision followed a review of the security situation in collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders.

It added that additional safety measures have been introduced across the affected communities and schools to protect students, teachers and school facilities.

Education authorities directed school heads and proprietors to prepare for the safe return of students and staff, while maintaining close cooperation with security agencies and community leaders to sustain a secure learning environment.

The government also assured parents and guardians that security has been strengthened in schools across the state and urged them to send their children back to school as normal activities resume.
