Ilejemeje LGA Vice Chairman In Ekiti Remanded Over Alleged Fake Kidnap.

The Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area in Ekiti State, Grace Ogunleye, has been remanded in prison custody over allegations that she staged her own kidnapping to raise money for political and financial needs.

An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court ordered her remand on Wednesday after she was brought before the court on several charges linked to the alleged incident.

Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun directed that Ogunleye be kept at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre pending further legal action. The court also ordered that the case file be duplicated and forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The case followed reports that Ogunleye was allegedly kidnapped on May 20, 2026, along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti road. Her vehicle was later found abandoned by the roadside, triggering concern among residents and government officials.

The reported abduction led to a rescue effort involving officers of the Nigeria Police Force, military personnel, and local security operatives. She was eventually found the following day, May 21.

However, police investigations later allegedly revealed that the kidnapping was arranged by Ogunleye herself. Investigators claimed the plan was carried out to obtain funds to meet financial obligations and political commitments.

Following the court proceedings, the matter was adjourned while authorities await legal advice from the DPP on the next step in the prosecution.

Reacting to the development, the Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Pius Dada, condemned the alleged action and maintained that no public official would be shielded from the law.

He also described the incident as capable of weakening public confidence in government officials and security agencies if proven to be true.
