Ayodele Fayose has defended the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the president has done his best in handling Nigeria’s problems after taking over from former President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said Tinubu came into office facing many challenges and has been trying to manage the situation instead of distancing himself from the previous administration.
Fayose also said the kind of criticism Tinubu is facing is similar to what former President Goodluck Jonathan experienced while in office.
Fayose made comments about the recent kidnapping of schoolchildren in Oyo State, saying state governments also have a role in security because they receive security votes and also operate local security groups like Amotekun.
He said security responsibility should not be placed only on the federal government.
He further suggested that he suspects, though he may be wrong, that the kidnapping incident in Oyo State could have been arranged in a way to put pressure on Tinubu’s government, adding that the state government did not respond quickly and only became active after political activities were completed.
He still described the situation as sad and said kidnappings remain a serious concern in the country.
He also noted that security challenges in Nigeria require joint efforts from both federal and state governments.
