The Kano State Government has merged the Ministry of Water Resources with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change as part of efforts to improve government operations and make public service more effective.
Following the decision, both ministries will now function as one body under a new name, the Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change.
The development was confirmed by the Commissioner in charge of the ministry, Dahir M. Hashim, in a statement shared on his Facebook page on Monday.
According to him, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf approved the merger as part of ongoing reforms aimed at improving how government ministries carry out their duties and deliver services to residents of the state.
Hashim said the approval marks a new phase in the administration’s plans to strengthen coordination between sectors that are closely linked.
He noted that water management, environmental protection and climate-related matters will now be handled under one ministry.
“I am pleased to announce that His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the merger of the Ministry of Water Resources and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change into a single ministry, now known as the Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change,” Hashim said.
