The camp of Kwankwasiyya leader and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Presidential Candidate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has dismissed reports suggesting he may exit the party over the replacement of candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to The Nation newspaper on Monday, June 8, 2026, Habibu Sale Mohammed, spokesman of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, described the claims as “mere rumours.”
Some media outlets had reported that Kwankwaso might leave the NDC if loyalists previously nominated by his bloc were substituted. The reports emerged after several candidates submitted by the movement were replaced, with allegations that the action violated a prior power-sharing arrangement.
Mohammed refuted the claims, emphasizing that neither Kwankwaso nor the movement had lodged any complaints.
“The Kwankwasiyya Movement, and neither its leader, is complaining,” he said.
He explained that the party primaries, conducted on May 29, were carried out in accordance with the Electoral Act and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) guidelines, and winners were affirmed the same day.
Mohammed further stated that NDC stakeholders had earlier agreed on a consensus model for candidate selection, which was followed in submitting the final list without internal disputes.
He added that Kwankwaso had not raised any grievances with the movement regarding the party’s decisions and noted that the NDC was best positioned to address the circulating reports.
