Napoli have announced that head coach Antonio Conte will leave the club after two seasons in charge, with former AC Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri reportedly in line to take over.
In an official statement on Thursday, Napoli confirmed that an agreement had been reached to end Conte’s contract before its natural expiry.
"Napoli announces that an agreement has been reached with Antonio Conte and his staff to part ways before the natural expiry of their contracts," the club said. "We would like to thank the coach and his backroom team for their excellent work. We wish them the very best for the future and the next challenges they will face in their careers. Thanks, coach!"
Conte, 56, led Napoli to the Serie A title in the 2024/25 season and has been widely speculated as the frontrunner for the Italy national team coaching role. The former Italy international previously managed the national side from 2014 to 2016, guiding them to the Euro 2016 quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by Germany on penalties.
Napoli are reportedly in advanced negotiations with 58-year-old Allegri, who was recently sacked by AC Milan after failing to secure a place in next season’s Champions League. Should the deal go through, Allegri would return to Serie A management following his successful spells with Juventus and Milan.
The club has thanked Conte for his contributions, emphasizing his role in Napoli’s domestic success and expressing best wishes for his future endeavors.
