Nigerian Army Announces Major Leadership Reshuffle To Strengthen National Security.

The Nigerian Army has announced a sweeping reshuffle of its senior leadership, appointing new General Officers Commanding (GOCs), brigade commanders, and principal staff officers in a move aimed at strengthening national security and improving operational effectiveness across the country.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, the redeployment and new appointments are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the Army’s response to emerging security challenges.

Under the new postings, Major General EI Okoro has been appointed General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Nigerian Army, as well as Land Component Commander of the Joint Task Force South-South, Operation DELTA SAFE. He succeeds Major General EE Emeka.

Major General JR Lar has also been appointed Commander of Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola will serve as Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri retains his position as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.

In other key appointments, Brigadier General IB Buhari has been named Commander of Headquarters 63 Brigade, and Brigadier General K Rabiu will lead Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.

Major General O Adegbe has been appointed Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, approved the strategic redeployment of senior officers, describing the exercise as necessary to enhance the Army’s capacity to address evolving security threats.

Major General WM Dangana has been appointed GOC 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, replacing Major General EF Oyinlola.

Several appointments were also made in military education and institutional development. Major General KE Chigbu has been named Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, while Major General SD Makolo becomes Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School.

Brigadier General U Ahmad will serve as Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army in Zaria, and Major General SA Emmanuel has been appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command.

The Army said these changes reflect its increasing focus on emerging domains of warfare and technology-driven security operations.
 

In the wider reshuffle, Major General KO Ukandu has been appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited, while Major General AI Allison will head Defence Properties Limited.

Other appointments include Major General SO Adejimi as Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, and Major General FS Etim as Chief of Training at the Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).

Army Reaffirms Commitment to Professionalism and National Security

The statement also quoted the Chief of Army Staff urging newly appointed officers to justify the confidence placed in them through exemplary leadership, professionalism, innovation, and commitment to Nigeria’s constitutional mandate.

“The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its transformation drive and commitment to building a highly professional, combat-ready and people-oriented force capable of effectively addressing contemporary and future security challenges,” the statement added.
