Obi Questions Nigeria’s Leadership Priorities, Calls For Transparency.

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Obi, has raised concerns over what he described as misplaced priorities in Nigeria’s leadership, urging a stronger focus on national survival issues such as insecurity, hunger, and corruption.

Obi made the remarks in a post on his X account, where he reflected on a section of the Independent National Electoral Commission nomination form he recently completed.

He said one of the questions, which asks whether a candidate has ever been adjudged mentally unfit, made him reflect on the need for sound-minded leadership in the country.

He questioned whether Nigeria’s current political leadership can truly be described as focused on the nation’s pressing challenges, citing rising cases of abductions, unsafe highways, widespread hunger, and alleged diversion of public funds.

According to him, the situation calls for urgent action, insisting that issues affecting security and survival should take priority over political activities and partisan interests.

He argued that a responsible government would treat such challenges as a national emergency and mobilise all relevant institutions and stakeholders to address them.

Obi also drew attention to another section of the nomination form that asks whether a candidate has ever presented a forged certificate to INEC.

He said this raises the need for greater transparency in the electoral process and suggested that academic credentials of all political candidates should be made public to strengthen trust in elections.

He maintained that transparency and accountability remain key to building confidence in governance, adding that Nigeria’s challenges require leadership defined by competence, character, and service.
