Oyo State Lifts Curfew In 10 Local Government Areas After Security Situation Improves.

The Oyo State Government has lifted the curfew previously imposed on 10 local government areas following recent security concerns linked to a kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area.

The curfew had been introduced as part of emergency measures to support rescue operations and strengthen security across communities bordering the old Old Oyo National Park.

The state government announced the 16-hour curfew on Tuesday, June 23, as part of efforts to curb insecurity in the affected areas. The restriction ran daily from 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. and covered Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba local government areas.

A memo issued through the office of the Secretary to the State Government confirmed the directive at the time, stating it was intended to support ongoing security operations and improve safety across the region.

Curfew officially lifted

Announcing the lifting of the restriction on Saturday, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, confirmed that residents in the affected areas are now free to resume normal daily activities.

He expressed appreciation to residents for their cooperation during the curfew period and acknowledged their patience while security operations were ongoing.

Despite lifting the curfew, the state government said it remains vigilant and continues to monitor the security situation closely. Authorities also assured residents that security agencies are still actively working to address kidnapping incidents and strengthen protection of lives and property across Oyo State.
