Police Gives Update On Kogi Teacher Allegedly Beaten To Death Over Student Discipline.

The Kogi State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a primary school teacher, Maryam Usman, who allegedly died after being assaulted for disciplining one of her pupils in Olamaboro Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, the incident began after the pupil sustained an arm injury during a disciplinary exercise at Brains Minds Nursery and Primary School in Ugbamaka. The injury reportedly occurred when the child fell while being punished.

Following the incident, the pupil's father, identified as Abdullahi Ishaka, allegedly confronted the teacher at her residence alongside two women, where she was physically assaulted.

Sources also claimed that later the same day, Maryam was attacked again by other individuals while on her way to a mosque, leaving her with severe injuries.

Confirming the incident in a statement issued on Sunday, June 28, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Oyiza Salisu Afusat, said the case of alleged culpable homicide was officially reported at the Olamaboro Divisional Headquarters on June 25.

According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that the assault occurred on June 18, when the suspects allegedly stormed the school and attacked the 30-year-old teacher over the disciplinary action taken against the pupil.

Maryam was initially treated at a hospital in Ugbamaka before being transferred to Iko-Ojo Hospital in Okpo for further medical care. She later died from her injuries on June 25.

Police officers visited both the scene of the incident and the deceased's residence to document evidence, while arrangements have been made to transfer her body to the General Hospital in Ankpa for an autopsy.

The command disclosed that the suspects fled before officers arrived, but efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.

The police further stated that once the suspects are arrested, the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and comprehensive investigation.
