President Tinubu Swears In Two New Ministers.

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Joseph Tegbe as Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, following recent cabinet changes triggered by resignations ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) May 2026 primaries.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the brief swearing-in ceremony took place at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, with the ministers’ spouses and senior government officials in attendance.

Both appointments follow the resignation of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, who stepped down to pursue elective positions ahead of the party’s primary elections.

President Tinubu had nominated Tegbe and Enikanolaiye on May 5, 2026, and the Senate confirmed their appointments the following day, May 6.

The development marks another phase in the ongoing cabinet adjustments linked to political realignments ahead of the 2026 election cycle, as members of the Federal Executive Council with electoral ambitions step aside in line with directives from the government.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation had earlier issued a circular in March 2026 mandating ministers seeking political office to resign before participating in party primaries.

In related changes, Dr. Muttaqha Darma was sworn in on April 30, 2026, as Minister of Housing and Urban Development, replacing Dr. Ahmed Dangiwa following a wider cabinet reshuffle. The reshuffle also saw the exit of former Finance Minister Wale Edun, with Taiwo Oyedele taking over the portfolio.
