Soldiers Allegedly Storm UNIOSUN hostels, Assault Students, Seize Phones.

Some soldiers reportedly from the Army Depot in Osogbo have been accused of invading student hostels at Osun State University, Osogbo, where they allegedly assaulted students and carted away mobile phones and other electronic devices.

The incident was said to have happened on Monday evening when the soldiers reportedly entered halls of residence and caused panic among students.

During the operation, several students were allegedly beaten, while many had their phones and gadgets seized. Reports from the campus indicated that more than 60 devices were taken.

Female students were also said to have suffered severe harassment during the invasion, with claims that some were stripped and forced to act indecently.

There were also allegations of sexual assault, although no victim had been formally identified at the time the report was filed, making the claims unverified.

Male students were not spared, as others reportedly faced assaults, especially those wearing clothing or accessories linked to military colours.

The situation reportedly left many students injured, with at least two said to have been taken to the hospital, though one was later discharged.

The university management confirmed that over 20 students had been identified as victims of the incident.

The Vice Chancellor, who visited the affected hostels, said the matter had been escalated to the authorities of the Army Depot in Osogbo, which is located close to the campus and is often seen as a security presence for the school community.

The university’s spokesperson also confirmed that several students were assaulted, some allegedly stripped and touched inappropriately, while others had their belongings taken.

He added that investigations were ongoing, and the institution was working with military authorities to address the situation.

Three individuals linked to the incident were reportedly identified and brought back to the campus for questioning.

University authorities said they are seeking accountability over the incident and ensuring that affected students receive support while discussions continue with the military leadership.
