A teacher lost his life while several students were reportedly taken away by armed men who attacked Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack happened on Monday when the gunmen reportedly arrived in the community on motorcycles and moved through the local market before heading to the school.
The incident was confirmed by Solomon Kwamagar, who said the attackers struck on a market day in Lassa. According to him, the gunmen entered the school, shot a teacher and took away students who were attending classes at the time.
Kwamagar said information available to him showed that the attackers passed through the busy market before carrying out the operation at the school.
He explained that Lassa is largely populated by the Margi people, whose communities are found across both Borno State and Adamawa State.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities and community members were still trying to determine the exact number of students and staff members taken during the attack.
Efforts to gather more details about the incident and the whereabouts of the victims were ongoing, while residents remained anxious over the fate of those reportedly abducted.
